The Count canvas is designed for more than just static reporting. By adding control cells (think of them as filters), you can turn your canvas into an interactive report or dynamic document.
Adding control cells
To get started, add a control cell from the toolbar:
Choose the type of control you need (you can read more about each type in our docs).
Click anywhere on the canvas to place it.
Configuring your control
Some controls—like Multiple select and Single select—need to be configured to display the correct options in their drop-downs.
With the control selected, you have two ways to populate it:
Dynamic values: Use the Dynamic menu to pull unique values from a data source by selecting a table and column.
Static values: Use the Static option to manually type in a list of values.
Once you've set up your dropdown, you’re ready to connect it.
Connecting controls to visuals and tables
To link your control to a visual or table:
Click on your visual or table cell.
Drag the column you want to filter into the Filter field.
In the pop-up, choose Connect to control.
Use the drop-downs to set the logic and select your control.
Now, try changing your control selections—your visual should now update!
You can connect the same control to multiple cells, which is perfect for reports or metric maps.
Use Overviews for easy access to your control cells
In the left-hand sidebar, you'll find the Overview panel. This is a great spot to surface key information and controls for your canvas or report.
To add a control to the Overview:
Click Overview in the left-hand sidebar.
Type
/
and choose Control from the menu.Pick the control you want to display from the dropdown.
This makes your control accessible wherever you are in the canvas—even in Report view.
💡 Tip: You can also add plain text in the Overview to give context or instructions to your audience.
